I’ve always been a fan of Geren Ford’s simplistic forms, but true to my own Malaysian earning form, the prices have always made such beauty out of reach. Thanks to new age poverty, Geren Lockhart has hooked up with Urban Outfitters to provide us with a more affordable range of clothing; Hawks.

Trend Alert: Plaid
Grunge, lumberjack, slacker, Scottish… what else do you think of when you see plaid? If you’re not a fan of the pattern then I guess “chic” would be the last thing on your mind.
For the trend conscious, I’m sure you’d be appalled to see this post. “Plaid? Dah-ling please… it was soooo last season…” (Clearly, my different personalities collide all the time resulting in such imaginary conversations. And I’ve got to get that anal so-called fashionista out of my head!)
Anyway, it looks like the plaid “trend” didn’t totally disappear. They made minor appearances in the SS08 collections. Remember Luella and Gucci?
There’s No Such Thing As Having Too Many Shoes
I wonder whether this includes the Lewre and Ben de Lisi collection as well…
Strike A Pose For The Bloggers
We’ve seen street style blogs everywhere on cyberspace, two of the most popular being the Face Hunter and Scott Schulman’s The Sartorialist. I don’t know what it is about viewing these sites that intrigue readers, a possible voyeuristic aspect best explained with an equal dose of reality tv addiction perhaps.
One More For Girl’s Night Out
Does the word ‘shopaholic’ mean anything to you? Of course it does! Most of you TiC readers here are one anyway! (Don’t deny it! We saw you at KLue Urbanscapes recently, hunting down for great bargains!)
Following the footsteps of best-selling-fashion-novel-turned-chick-flick - Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, Sex and the City - the next one to look forward to is Confessions of a Shopaholic (by Sophie Kinsella).
The first book of the best-selling Shopaholic series is to be made into a movie, directed by P.J. Hogan. The movie is now in post-production and has been announced to be released on 13 February 2009 in the United States.
So… wondering who will be playing the coveted role of the Shopaholic Rebecca (aka Becky) Bloomwood?
Vintage Yums
With the amount of flea markets and junkyard sales mushrooming around KL these days, it’s pretty evident that vintage clothing is catching up in the KL scene. Woohoo to that! I mean, what’s not to love about grandmama dresses and purple suede leggings ey? Definitely heaps better than mass-produced labels seeming to vomit out the same ol’ junk everytime. Or worse, spotting three girls donning the same red dress you have on at the same party. Ouch!
Singaporean Design Wunderkind Hits The Big Time
Upon being prompted to write more on South East Asian designers and fashion, I was slightly slumped, I mean don’t we all go to the nearest Topshop, Warehouse and Guess for our purchases and devour international magazines like you would your local chicken rice? How would local designers who tend to produce clothes more suited to the runway fit into our daily shopping routine? As much as the “Malaysia Boleh” spirit is in all of us, it can’t be denied that international brands hold a much bigger place in our hearts and our wallets. There is room for local talent to grow and flourish for sure, but till then many still stick to Miss Selfridge and MNG for their skinny jeans.
All that vanished when I discovered Asian designers like Selphie Bong and one of which stood out to me particularly; Ashley Isham. The Singapore-bred designer cruises the London fashion scene with the ease one is akin to when your name is synonymous with the likes of Christoper Kane and Marios Schwab, and dresses U.K socialite Zara Phillips at the Royal Ascot in 2002 (which is also the year he opened his boutique, Acquaint).
