Around the World
Topshop finally opened its doors to New Yorkers yesterday . The high street chain has been eagerly awaited by many and the anticipation was no doubt further driven by the Topshop Hearts challenger vans driving around the city giving out free goody bags, some of which include Topshop gift certificates worth as mush as $500, to lucky passerbys. In fact, the opening drew such a large crowd that hours after the opening, Sir Philip said: “It’s been amazing. People are still queuing. They are going round the whole block, twice.”

Despite the curse of British retail on American shores, (listed here), Topshop might just survive. For one, Topshop captures "that great London street style" which seems to act as inspiration to New York teens. THAT plus the right price and a fabulous shoe section (see pic below) should keep Topshop's foray into the States a successful one.

And to all fans of those rubbery colourful clogs, Crocs Inc. is reportedly struggling to stay afloat. Already battered by falling sales and a plummeting share price, Crocs faces an April 2 deadline to pay off $22.4 million it owes on its revolving credit line! The company has hired a turnaround expert, John Duerden, who took over as president and chief executive, but will he be able to save them? After all, Crocs's problems have less to do with the recession than with fading public interest in its signature footwear. Could this be the death of Crocs? I'll drink to that!
Edited to add: Matthew Williamson's capsule collection for H&M is scheduled to drop in stores April 23rd. For fans of the designer's trippy prints and bright colours, the sneak peak of his collection does not disappoint. Check it out on the H&M profile on FB or to view the full assortment head over to www.hm.com on April 16th.
