Chic Shop: Glampot
Situated in the busy hub of Taipan Subang next to a beauty salon, sits a little prel-oved designer shop called Glampot. A step into the store later, you’ll find yourself mesmerized with their precious treasures. I sat down with the fashionable brother-sister team, David and Gabriena, to talk about their business.

Hi, nice to meet you both! Tell me a bit about yourselves.
David: I’m David, and this is my sister Gabriena. I’m 23 this year and I’ve just graduated last year. So I work full-time here in the boutique.
Gabriena: I’m a student at Monash studying communication. I stop by the boutique every chance I can to help out.
You are both so young! How did the idea of this boutique begin? Was fashion something you’ve always wanted to venture in?
D: Both of us have always been intrigued by fashion, since our parents were obsessed with it. Our whole family love clothes, so you could say our parents play a vital role in instilling our love for fashion. The idea of opening a preloved boutique started during a family holiday in Hong Kong three years ago.
We were walking along Wellington Street Central and these two boutiques: Parisian and Milan Station. At that point of time, vintage thrift stores were on the rage in the western countries, especially in the UK. We took all these concepts to translate into something that would appeal to the Malaysian market.
Did it take long to set up the boutique?
It happened really quickly actually. Upon returning home to Malaysia, we made arrangements with our aunt who happens to own a beauty salon. She let us have part of salon and we turned it into a boutique. So after three months of renovations, we open our doors just beside our aunt’s beauty salon on the 8th of December 2007.

Which labels do you carry under Glampot?
We have items from Tsumori Chisato, Catherine Malandrino, Phillip Lim, Hanii Y, Mint, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Balenciaga, Chanel, Juicy Couture, Hermes, Fendi, Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Bally, Salvatore Ferragamo, Stuart Weitzman, Aigner and YSL among many others.
Who are the people who usually buy these items?
Generally young working adults. As for bazaars, our customers are mainly students as we sell more affordable clothes and accessories then. We want to cater to all types of segments of the market tho mainly females.
Do you have any plans to expand?
Of course we have! But we have yet to decide when and where!

So how often you update your stocks and where do you source them from?
D: For new clothes, we restock them once in two months. As for preloved items, there are new ones that come in everyday.

Let’s talk about personal favourites. Who are your fave fashion labels?
G: I’ve got so many! I’m in love with Marc Jacobs, Luella, Betsey Johnson, Zac Posen, Marni and Balenciaga!
D: Among some of my favourites are Tom Ford, John Galianno Dsquared, Cheap Monday and Lanvin.

How would you describe your personal style?
G: I actually wear almost everything! But if I were to define it, I would say I’d wear more of quirky and vintage items.
D: I guess I’d wear Scandinavian stuff and form-fitting clothes like a shapey blazer.

D: I need a giant Birkin bag!

What’s your exchange policy like in Glampot?
D: We do exchanges if the tags are still on, never been worn/used after purchase. We normally exchange items and don’t do cash refunds. Customers don’t need to exchange items on the spot if they’re extremely busy. We’ll give them a cash rebate voucher for their next purchase with us.
