Barbie's 50th Birthday In Singapore

Filed In Events by Kee | Comments: 0 | Views: 1864

She just turned 50 and she's anything but "plastic". This fabulous icon has more outfits and role changes than Madonna and Britney combined. She's a fashion model, a rock star rebel, a presidential hopeful, a glam queen, a pet doctor and almost anything you want her to be.

En route to make her 50th birthday bash an international success, her next glamorous stop is Singapore!

Fresh from her debut runway show at New York Fashion Week and her Barbie Emporium opening in Shanghai, the (somewhat) "real-life" Barbie made an appearance to unveil her "Pink World" party plans at Basement 2 of Takashimaya Square (the fair is on from 27th May to 14th June). She embraced the occasion in a pink strapless bustier dress, sparkling jewellery and her trademark platinum blonde hair. It was all about fun and it didn't matter that "real-life" Barbie didn't seem to possess the "reported measurements" of 36-18-33.

Barbie fans will get to witness her new drive, the Fiat 500, in  her signature pink shade. There are only 15 units of this pink edition available in Singapore and one lucky fan will walk away with this chic ride by guessing the number of Barbie dolls in the car. We gave up at 20...

Dolls galore! Collectors and even non-Barbie fans will be excited by what's available for sale. We spotted pop culture figures like Marilyn Monroe, Elvis & Priscilla Presley, the Star Trek crew and the cast of Wizard of Oz, to name a few!

A display of Barbie is not complete without showcasing her evolutionary path towards superstardom. It's amazing how Barbie has clocked up to 180 jobs in her career thus far. And she's still job hunting for more...

The Barbie limited edition collector's set was the star of the show and there are only 50 of them in Singapore. This set comprises of a 50th Anniversary Barbie doll in Glamorous Gold Gown designed by Robert Best (remember him from Project Runway season 3?) and an exclusive silver commemorative coin. This coin depicts a classic Barbie in swimwear with a splash of pink as the background and there are only 20,000 pieces available in the world.

The doll alone costs SGD$101.90 and the whole box set, which includes the coin retails at SGD$199.90.

The Barbie brand is more than just dolls and all things pink. Get your hands on Barbie-inspired accessories by Patricia Field, the costume designer for movies such as Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada and Confessions of a Shopaholic. Expect adorable hangbags, clutches, earrings and necklaces. The gold ponytailed Barbie silhouette might just be the next monogram in fashion.
