Our recent Chic Pop event saw an area dedicated to DIY Fashion, whereby guests were given materiels and taught how to make a headpiece with an artificial flower, netting and shoulder pad. If you missed out on the event, here's the quick and easy tutorial that needs only the simplest of tools, and requires very little sewing. So don't fret, beginners of the sewing needle, this is one project that you'll enjoy!
Materials:
1 x shoulder pad
1 x netting (measure at 6" width, 12" length, or according to preference)
1 x artificial flower
1 x scissors
2 x hairpins needle and thread
Instructions
1. Begin by gathering the netting by hand at an approximated 2 inches from the top. Take your needle and thread, and sew the hand gathers together tightly.
2. Fold the netting down at the gathered section, and adjust its placement of the netting onto your shoulder pad. Sew the netting in place.
3. Place the artificial flower on top of the sewn netting. Sew the flower in place.
4. Place the headpiece on your head and secure it with 2 hairpins on both sides.
Now that you have the basic steps, you can play around with your shoulder pad headpiece as much as you'd like, from adding bows, beads or feathers alike. For more on this tutorial, do watch the video below for a step-by-step guide. Have fun!
