Chic Shop: H5 (KL)
Just 3 days old with some ranges already sold out(!), H5 is a brand new store in Bangsar Village II that will be on the must-visit list for any coolhunter in KL. The minimalist store stocks some of the coolest cult brands for watches and sneakers; including Nooka, FeiYue, Noon Copenhagen, LIP from France, Alive Tokyo and Philippe Starck.
Founded by Tong Chee Wei who has had extensive experience in the timepiece industry, H5 is his pet project which he also dubs The Science Lab (hence the store's clinical appearance). "Everything is intentionally kept simple and bare to allow the products to do all the talking," explained Tong.
H5 (which stands for Haute 5) may look slightly intimidating from the outside, but step into the bright store and its wrist gadgets and sneakers will distract you entirely. In the middle of the store are limited edition designer toys (for display only) and I got a pair of Commes des Garcon x Bearbrick toys pointed out to me.
One of the very limited range of items H5 have in store are FeiYue shoes. The legendary shoe was originally used by the monks in China before die-hard sneaker freak Patrice Bastian took it to Paris and marketed it to great cult success in Europe. It was available in Hong Kong just earlier this year, and if you want to get a pair of the shaolin shoe for yourself, you'd better hurry as H5 only stocks one pair per size.
However, the star brand at H5 is Nooka, an accessory design brand founded in New York by Matthew Waldman, an artist and designer who worked on a way to present time in a linear and graphic manner.

Besides silver, black and gold; a wide range of bright colours are available and pay homage to pop art. Nooka has also collaborated with the likes of Spongebob Squarepants, and produced a special edition for Kanye West's Glow In The Dark tour. Prices for Nooka range from RM460 - RM1,000 and above.
