Trend Talk Tuesdays: Quirky Sunnies!
Being located so close to the equator, we’re lucky to be blessed with warm weather all year round. I for one never fully appreciated being able to go out in flip-flops and a tank top and not worry about the weather until moving to Melbourne - a city notorious for its ability to have four seasons in a day. Back home again, and I’m relishing the idea of being able to walk around in high-cut shorts, a cute spaghetti strap, and of course most importantly, an awesome pair of sunnies to hide those peepers from the strong Malaysian sun!

The days of boring sunglasses are out with the emergence of some seriously super funky frames! Lanvin showed us how to bring bling-bling back with their bejewelled sunglasses in SS09. The heart-wrenching price tag of USD $1500 make them way out of our budget though, ouch!

Do you remember Kanye West’s shutter shades made popular in his music video for his hit song, Stronger? Despite shutter shades being around since the 1980s, 2007-08 were all about their hit return. From Kanye to Paris to even Ashlee, the shutter shades refused to go out of style, prompting your parental units to wonder “can you even see through those?!” Answer - If I try not to blink too much!

Shutter shade-aholics would be happy to know that SS/10 brings the new shutter shades – stainless steel frames with metal shutters, courtesy of Roman Kremer for Mykita. “The design borrows cues from traditional Inuit eyewear, which was designed solely to provide protection from dazzling sunlight and did not have conventional lenses. The very graphic and square-edged frame is inspired by the collection’s leitmotiv of protection and is reminiscent of war face paint” – Selectism.com
