The girls behind the label Sretsis prove that artistic talent is in fact, the product of nature as opposed to nurture. Founded in 2002, the label is the incestous lovechild of three Thai siblings with a passion for both fashion and the business of style. The designer of the pack, Pim Sukhahuta, studied at the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York but started the label during her first year of studies. For the Spring Summer 08 collection, Pim managed to revive the romance of the mile high club and combine it with a Mary Tyler Moore allure, as if she was a jet setting groupie of the 1970s.
Taking the concept of symbiosis to another level, her younger sisters Kly and Martina manage the brand’s public relations and design the jewelery for Sretsis, respectively. Could this be the formula for a perfect business venture? Perhaps, but maybe this unique relationship between the three could boil down to the simple love of clothes.
According to Pim, “It’s all about whimsical prints, nostalgic details with a modern-day attitude. We don’t believe in locking up clothes only for special occasions. We want girls to experience the regular joy of dressing up.”
This nostalgic and feminine appeal has attracted buyers from New York and Australia, making Stretsis one of the most successful labels to come out of Southeast Asia.
