Strike A Pose For The Bloggers
By: May Lin Tang
We’ve seen street style blogs everywhere on cyberspace, two of the most popular being the Face Hunter and Scott Schulman’s The Sartorialist. I don’t know what it is about viewing these sites that intrigue readers, a possible voyeuristic aspect best explained with an equal dose of reality tv addiction perhaps.

I Got Shot In The City is our very own local Sartorialist founded by a friend of mine back in high school. The blog catalogues the styles of the lucky few the author chooses, not just in Malaysia but to wherever she may wander, camera in hand. Aina Liyana or Linolumixa (her screen name) provides a little running commentary of the frocks and duds the young and older folk are decked out in and provides succinct snippets of their likes and dislikes. Aina’s blog has also been featured in the recent January issue of KLue.

Another two great sites to add to your favourites are Tokyo Street Style and Tokyo Neo Style. Both websites bring readers inspired looks as seen on the streets of Japan (Harajuku, Shibuya, Omotesando, Daikanyama and Ginza) with the latter documenting profiles of a featured student from Bunka Fashion College. These aren’t just your typical kawaii girls and rockstar-impersonating boys, instead they’re driven by trends usually seen on their counterparts out West, bringing much more sass and individuality to their look. Elements of what is unique and synonymous with Japanese fashion is incorporated into their outfits. Think kitschy keyrings, frills and bows.
