The Belfry - Cut, Curl, Colour.

The Belfry is hidden on the ground floor of Tangs in Pavilion.
It’s not as underground as you think as the salon has a wide glass window, providing a giant peep-hole to many a passerby outside.

I had fifteen minutes to kill before a lunch appointment so i popped in to say hello to Matthew Mack, owner and Creative Director of The Belfry (pronounced bel-free), who runs it with partner Jen.

By me making the mistake of saying ‘bel-fry’, he quickly shot me down with, “It’s bel-free!”

Matt had been with the Toni & Guy Europe team for 18 years before venturing to KL, constructing a humbly-sized salon that’s brimming with colour and attitude. Starry chandeliers, turquoise dressing tables, lilac wooden panels and striped wallpaper that makes you swoon (literally) places the salon as one of its kind in KL, unlike the others of minimalist and mod interior.

Open 10am - 9pm daily, a cut and blow dry will cost you RM75-95 whereas the same services from Matt himself will cost RM180 and above. Check out the full price list on their website. If you’re unsure of how much, or what sort of services you’re getting, feel free to walk into the salon for free consultation. They promise not to pressure you ;)

Children, being the tiny mites they are, get half price discount as long as they’re under 12 years of age and make an appointment from Mondays-Thursdays.

According to Matt, “I picked up a pair of scissors before i could walk, a child prodigy.”

Don’t hold me to that fact.
Why don’t you visit him and ask him for yourself.

I decided to check out this salon as I'd heard a good review from someone. I came away very disappointed with my average haircut from Matt. The surroundings are nice and the service is good, but for the money I wasn't really happy with the end result and will be going elsewhere for a haircut a bit sooner than I normally would to sort it out.
