No Man Is An Island
The Island Shop's first ever charity drive to help World Vision efforts to eradicate poverty in Thusalushaka, South Africa was recently held in Bangsar Village II on Thursday 30 October. Together with the charity event, Island Shop brought a distinctively African vibe to their latest High Summer/Cruise '08 collection, fittingly called "The African Expedition". Island Shop specially created a limited edition zebra print linen bag which retails for RM25, but is RM15 if bought along with any other Island Shop item and all the proceeds go towards World Vision's Area Development Programme in Thusalushaka.
Not only would you be doing your part for a good cause, but the purchase of this versatile tote would be a perfect addition to your wardrobe as it's reversible. Take your pick with 6 colours to choose from: white/pink, light blue/navy, red/khaki green, salmon pink/lime green, rust/olive and grey/chocolate brown - while stocks last.
Guests enjoyed some snacks and drinks provided by Banquet, like Strawberry and Kiwi fruit cocktails and brownies, as well as an African inspired tribal dance before the fashion show.

I loved the sequined detail on this simple, geometric pattern dress.
Perhaps it was due to the long-limbed models wearing the dresses, but the hem lines seemed a little on the short side, enough to make you think twice before bending down :P Anyway, this would be easily remedied with some opaque tights.
The main elements of the collection are comfortable, natural fabrics like cotton, brightly coloured prints to muted, earthy tones and clean, simple cuts.
