Wilbur + Gussie = Eureka!

This is almost too painful for me to write about, I swear my heart almost went into overdrive upon spotting these babies. My love for clutches is a well-known fact amongst my girlfriends. They know how much I adore its tiny ability to look cute, sexy and downright decadent at the same time.
Given any opportunity, I’d scour the shops and flea markets for that vintage clutch given the chance, like a woman possessed. It’s almost always to no avail, as what I discover is usually poorly made, smells or is just plain ugly (or to put it nicely, not my taste).
Wilbur and Gussie is a British brand founded by Brett Tyne and Lucy Lyons and is so named after both their pets - Wilbur is Lucy’s mongrel cat, and Gussie is Brett’s terrier dog. The duo have enjoyed great success since the brand’s debut back in 2005 during London Fashion Week, garnering themselves great coverage in Vogue U.K, InStyle, Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair. They’re also a much cheaper alternative to those exorbitantly-priced Fendi maxi baguettes for Spring Summer ‘08 that have been on my wish list.
The clutches come in a wide array of colours and prints (paisley and Missoni-sh, concentric circles and animal, with a bit of plaid thrown in) and all are finished off with a fantastic bejewelled clasp that is an accessory in itself. Other quirky characteristics include prints of salamander, bees, dragonflies, poodles, cats and even a penguin clasp.
The bags are divided into four ranges, with each range named after other beloved pets the designers own. The Charlie range is extremely popular - an envelope style that comes with a wrist strap, whereas the Harriet line is the best-selling of the lot. Made for those who prefer a more classic look, they’re made out of mock crocodile leather with a gold/silver metal clasp.
