TiC Surf: Ga-ga Over Gingham
By: Yu Shan
Hello and welcome to your weekly fix of online shopping, where we comb through the vast online shopping coffers so that you can find just the item you need, right now. This week we’re going ga-ga over the pattern Gingham. I used to associate gingham with table cloth and Sunday picnics at the park, but who could resist, after seeing so many people sporting this trend again and again and looking no less than fabulous?

(Who’d believe this dress is from the Salvation Army?!)

A Zara shirt with a thrifted skirt.
Okay fine, the adorable Keira Knightley also had a big hand in this process…

Another reason why I’ve started to warm up to gingham is due to its versatility. It has been seen on button downs (an essential of Kurt Cobain grunge), ladylike dresses a la Knightley, rock-and-roll skinnies a la Zara. The sizes of the checks are also essential in how the entire look will appear, but when it comes down to it, gingham looks good on almost everything!
First off let’s trawl the high street.
Forever 21 is having a grunge revival and offered up numerous pickings... the brand’s a definite go-to if you’re looking for a cool oversize tee or button down to layer with a tailored blazer or skinny jeans. The key is to always browse through the men’s section.

Men’s Checkered Plaid Tee, $14.90

Gingham LS Woven Shirt, $19.90
As for more innovative pieces, Topshop or Miss Selfridge is always happy to oblige with a quirky piece or two…

Checked Mini Skirt (This item makes me want to go all 60s for at least one day…)

Checked Ruffled Bandeau

Multi Gingham Pussybow Shirt
Gingham has also started popping up on accessories, making it possible for you to inject it subtly into your wardrobe.

Gingham Headband, $2.80

Checked Bowling Bag
Or your personal life.

Gingham Thong, $3.80

Gingham Checked Padded Bra
Now it’s time to pay a visit to our local cyber shops, which are offering a wonderful selection all checkered up.

Plaid Shirt Dress from A Fitting Room Boutique, RM48. (I’m a sucker for ruffles, oblige me.) I also coincidentally found the exact same piece here, retailing for RM45, and here for RM55.

Gingham BabyDoll Top from Wild Berry Kiss, RM34
For a more casual, I-just-raided-my -bf’s-closet look:

Checker Box V 4.0 from Trendy Hunt, RM42

Lumber Jack from Lacquer and Lace, RM48
While you’re at it, get some patterned pants as well. Okay technically they’re sort of plaid… but they’re so covetable!

Plaid High Waisted Pants from Lacquer and Lace, RM55 (I want the shoes too!)
And with this I conclude this week’s TiC Surf Gingham Roundup. I do hope the post has you inspired at least till next week!
