Tongue in Chic has the inside story of a passionate young woman, Su Yin - who is now pursuing a career in baking and managing Delectable, a company that produces exquisitely-made cakes that are to die for.

Su Yin's astounding attention to detail has led her to take on numerous jobs in a short span of time, including creating cakes for notable clients such as Thomas Pink and Astro, to being commissioned to do a birthday cake for Channel V VJ Marion Caunter.
We had the chance to steal Su, the founder of Delectable away from the bags of flour and pre-heated oven for a quick Q+A exchange in regards to her current pursue and her personal fashion style.

TiC: How did "Delectable" start? Was this a dream you had since you were a little girl to start a business like this?
Su: Funny story; I’ll attempt to keep it brief. I was never a fan of sweets or cakes as a child. I had passion for craft and beautiful things, which inspired me to pursue my ambitions of creating wondrous architectural structures. That dream led me to Sydney, Australia; where I spent 4 years completing a degree in Construction and Property.
Whilst learning to be independent, I discovered a hidden knack I had with the oven. Soon I was churning in extra spending money from selling baked goodies and catering services from my tiny apartment kitchen.
Equipped with a new found love for pastry arts and big entrepreneurial dreams; I made my way to Florida where I spent 6 months at the
Notter School of Pastry Arts. Having been enlightened by the best in the industry, I returned home to Malaysia to kick off a new trend of delicious and extravagantly decorated goodies! Delectable has just begun and I have big plans in store for us!
TiC: Are you managing this full time?
Su: Yes. I’m currently set up full time in Kuala Lumpur.
TiC: Do you remember your first customer (and what cake/cupcake it was)?
Su: My very first cake was for a little girl’s birthday. I attempted a CASTLE! Haha I couldn’t believe I managed to pull it off. It was incredibly satisfying.
TiC: Do you plan to open a bakery store in the near future?
Su: I have a few plans in store; but would love to keep it under wraps for now. It’s a habit of mine to be a little secretive with my plans.
TiC: How long has it been since Delectable opened?
Su: I haven’t had an official launch yet, but I’ve beenn selling cakes in Malaysia since I returned in September 2008.
TiC: Since Chinese New Year is around the corner, are you promoting any packages on cookies/cupcakes?
Su: Yes I am! Click
here for more details.
TiC: Describe your personal style.
Su: In terms of fashion or clothing; I’m usually the type to dress myself comfortably in solid bold colours. I love having simple and neat lines without many patterns or shades. It makes things fun with tiny pieces of interesting accessories! I love shopping in vintage stores and designer boutiques for cute finds. I’m all for adding unique trendsetting twists to old classics. My favourite era of womens' fashion would have to be the 50s!
TiC: Do you shop online? if yes, which blog site/s? if not, which store/labels do you love?
SU: Yes I do! I shop at
threadless.com A LOT! I have a huge collection of all their food-related shirts. Too cute! I love their store concept.
In terms of labels, I’m a Club Monaco and Top Shop type of girl. When I do find time to shop in America, the Anthropology outlets are my favourite shopping spots.
