Fashion News from Around the World
Fashion marketing goes left off-field in Lanvin's latest Spring 2010 ad campaign, Donna Karan's short film featuring Christina Ricci and American brand, Esprit's, choice of new spokesmodel (who are wholly not born or bred in the US of A). Apart from that Chanel spreads some fashion cheer by loosening the purse strings and Hong Kong offers up an alternative to popular Shopbop.com wth GizzyNacho.com. Last but not least, it's the end of a decade and Vogue would like you to help vote in the best-dressed women of the 'Aughties'!

Fashion Reality TV
If you picked up the Star today, you might have read Reel Them In, an article talking about the fashion industry's remedy to recession - reality TV.
With their (then) editor at large Nina Garcia as a judge on Project Runway, Elle soared in their circulation, positioning the magazine as America's second most popular style guide, right behind Vogue. These days, smack in the middle of trying economic times, other magazines are following suit. And we in turn, are eating it up; let's face it, fashion reality TV is the new black.

Icon Of The Week: Diana Vreeland
In 1936, the legendary Carmel Snow of Harper's Bazaar spotted a young mother of two, Diana Vreeland, wearing a bolero over a Chanel lace dress. She introduced herself, and immediately offered Vreeland a job. While securing a position like a talent casting, in one of the most frivolous ways I ever heard, the rest is fashion history. While no one knows much about her life, Vreeland defined style for nearly half a century, and what we know as fashion today, as her masterpiece.

Is there really any good news left these days in fashion? The latest crazy news? Chanel's laying off 200 people in Paris! The losses were attributed by the workers’ union in France to a steep decline in sales. Decline in sales? With an estimated $5 billion in annual sales, this news certainly is an indication of the times. Hmmm... any chance of a sale? A discount on the 2.55 would be wonderful...

Galliano Gets Cute
Hello Kitty received a designer makeover and from John Galliano no less. What did she do to deserve that opportunity? I guess she must have friends in high places, i.e. Vogue Nippon in which she’ll appear for the June issue. The copy just went on sale a few days ago.
According to this news piece, “The fashion spread will show Kitty modeling the latest autumn and winter designs by John Galliano for the Dior brand, posing with the designer and enjoying a shopping spree in Paris.
“Of course this is the first time the historic fashion house of Dior has had a cartoon character model their entire collection,” said an official at Conde Nast Japan, publishers of Vogue Nippon.”
