Where & Wear: Bangkok Street Snaps

Filed In Blog by karen wong | Comments: 0 | Views: 739

To talk about Bangkok is to talk about one of the most fashion-forward cities in the Southeast Asian region. Home of the stylish threads at cheap prices, my first trip to Bangkok would prove to be an eye-opening experience. My peepers were wide opened at the amount of sights the city had to offer - not to discount the landscaped parks and architecture, but it was the teeming street-style that had my unwavering and unblinking attention.

NIHONGO FIESTA (PH)

Japan recently came to Manila in the form of the Nihongo Fiesta, which includes a Street Fashion Exhibition and Contest promoting the cultural and arts exchange between the two countries. I was invited to judge the Street Fashion Contest and, I must say, the Filipino kids really came in their J-pop best. Apart from the contest, there was also an exhibit featuring style photos from the streets of Tokyo (courtesy of the Japan Fashion Association) and Manila (taken by our very own Filipino fashion icons - Cecile Zamora-Van Straten and Jujiin Samonte). It truly was a visual feast with everyone looking extraordinarily fashionable. So, without further ado, I'll just let the photos speak for themselves.

Spotted!

My trip back home has started me doing some snap and click activity on creative ensembles I’ve been spotting around KL. I gotta admit, it’s not the easiest thing to do, but I’ve undoubtedly been spotting a few eye candies of late. Quite yummy if I may say so myself. (Do excuse the picture quality. I’m no pro and had to make do with my cheap luck of a camera.)

Bangkok Street Style #2

Since weekend is coming, I figured it’d be nice to show you some street style shots to inspire - time to bring out the fun threads you might not get to wear on workdays, depending on your job!

Clad And Concert-worthy

I’ve always wondered about the appropriate outfit for a concert and usually worry about being overdressed or choosing an outfit I would later regret.

Most concert-goers know for a fact that their idol wouldn’t possibly check out what outfit they’re in but somehow, deep down inside, many have stressed about this (with many-a fantasies of getting on stage or having their picture taken by the media).

With a mission other than to scream my lungs out that evening, I was out discovering what people were donning to concerts these days, namely the recent Gary Cao Ge “Welcome to my world” Asia concert in KL.

Thanks to contributor Michelle Pong who introduced us to her friend in Bangkok, Poe, who’s taken some street style pictures for us in his home city. Kudos to him for taking photographs of Thais who make posing look seemingly effortless.

Always Greener on the Other Side…

As a child, the allure of Jakarta was introduced to me via a song my parents used to karaoke along to. It was called ‘Antara Anyer dan Jakarta’, a song made famous by Malaysian pop queen Sheila Majid. To tell you the truth I had no idea what or where ‘Anyer’ was, but I have heard of Jakarta and imagined the place to be a lush land of greenery and exotic animals, inhabited by gorgeous women with crazy purple eyeshadow.

I wondered why Sheila decided to immortalize her desire for the land across the sea in song - perhaps she had a lover with the exotic Indonesian accent, or maybe she just needed a vacation like the rest of us. After necessary maturing on my part, I discovered many amazing things about Jakarta. And thankfully, their innate sense of style is being documented in a streetstyle blog called Jakarta Street Looks.

The perfect formula?

Filed In Fashion by tongueinchic | Comments: 0 | Views: 250

A dress, a pair of flats, cool sunnies and a great bag. That’s all it takes really to be chic me thinks. Something I should continue to remind myself as I get dressed in the mornings, considering that I don’t function well in the a.m… you should see my room once I’m done! Tights, skirts, belts, tops… all strewn haphazardly on my bed in my indecision and most importantly my inability to decide what matches and what goes with my mood. Again, I’m not an a.m. person so I don’t even know what my mood is really so dressing in head to toe black is the order of the day.

And as much as I hate formulas (it takes away from creative experimentation), I think this works. All because it eliminates any use of my brain that simply won’t work in the mornings. Now to buy myself more dresses. And flats. And sunnies. And possibly bags. Because I have a formula to stick to!
