Trend-Talk-Tuesdays: Borrowed from Boyfriend

Filed In Fashion by gwenyeoh | Comments: 10 | Views: 6193

Love it or hate it, the borrowed-from-boyfriend look is definitely making its mark on the trendsetters' must-haves lists. First, there was the boy-leg shorts which was patterned after the boxers (both worn as innerwear), Then there was the boyfriend jeans that girl were going crazy for – even if she was san male companionship. So if you thought designers and fashion hungry women would draw the line there, boy were you wrong! It seems man-coats, work shirts and Oxford shoes have also been given an update to fit the fairer sex.

Trend-Talk-Tuesdays: Rosettes

When it comes to accessories, I like mine to pop and draw attention immediately. However, toeing the fashion-forward/fashion-victim line can be quite tricky and often some of my choices result in derisive stares from others and scared little children. I’ve noticed though that rosettes usually get a murmur of approval. And with good reason – it is versatile while keeping a feminine edge, and more importantly, flowers generally tend to bring out the happy in people.

Nostalgic? Graphic tees can certainly bring back memories of younger days. Like  Danger Mouse from your childhood days - tee spotted on Jeen (further below) - to band tshirts from your high school/ college years (many of which are probably collectibles by now). Or perhaps you have a message to literally get off your chest? LIke the "Off the Deep End" tee from the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall show or "London Fashion Geek" as spotted off the runways on the left below.

Trend-Talk-Tuesdays: All Things Purple

Purple is the new black.

Well no, not really... although we do love such declarations don't we? Because our hunger for all things new remains unsatiated, we seem to be on the look out for anything "fresh" and we name just about any key colour THE colour of the season.

If fact if anything, black is the new black this fall but one of the hottest colours is indeed purple - violet, lavender, wine, etc. Whatever the shade, this regal colour seems to be popping up in outfits everywhere.

From dresses...

Trend-Talk-Tuesdays: Playsuits

Jumpsuits? Too Prison Break. Rompers... the word conjures up images of those onesies we used to wear as kids. I guess playsuit would be the best choice of word then. Very much more grown up and chaneling a little of the 70's vibe and Farah Fawcett. In the case of Marc Jacobs and Jill Stuart's Autumn 08 collection, their velvet and sequined playsuits are very adult indeed and dare I say it - even slightly elegant.

Trend-Talk-Tuesdays: Rolled-Up Pants Lust

In fashion, almost any trend can be turned on its head - what was once totally tacky can now be really cool.

Ever since coming across the lovely Karla and her army of double-cuffed boy pants, I’d been obsessed with finding my very own pair to wear with the legs rolled up a la Huckleberry Finn.

Trend-Talk-Tuesdays: Black Lace

Talk of lace has been ever abuzz on the blogosphere ever since Prada’s showing of her Autumn 08 collection earlier this year. The usage was not seen just at Prada, for hints of lace in various colours were also found in other collections - Erin Fetherston, Temperley, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Giorgio Armani, and Derek Lam. Personally, black lace stood out the most in the form of black lace dresses. Here are some of my favourite looks for the upcoming season:

After seasons of skinnies, it’s a relief to finally see slouchy trousers slowly invading the shops. I’m not ditching my skinnies for sure but if like me you’re bored and feel the need to mix it up (what a sad life I lead to be excited over a pair of trousers!) then I’m guessing you’re welcoming this trend with open arms. Also, it’s a little more practical for the crazy hot weather we’ve been having here lately.

Trend-Talk-Tuesdays: Socks

When was the last time you wore socks since you left school? Feel free to ignore this question if you’re a sneakerhead or frequent the gym (yucks!). Anyway, while I’ve been steadily collecting knee highs and colourful ankle socks (I now have a little over a drawerful) the Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2008 collection further ignited my love for such hosiery prompting me to pair them instead with heels. And not just paired with boots, but anything from platforms to sandals to wedges, strappy or otherwise.
