Just-For-Fun Friday: 2010 Trend Predictions

Filed In Blog by claudia | Comments: 0 | Views: 1230

Perhaps I'm making too much of a hoopla over embarking on a new decade. I've spent a few nights now, reading up on articles on what's to come for 2010. Unfortunately, trends won't be newfound. But just for fun, let's discuss what we'd like on our pages of Vogue Magazine this year!

Guys' Point of View

Tell a woman of today that her man would love her in that dress and she will scoff at your perception she is buying it for anyone other than herself. The new age lady knows what she likes and will wear it whether it's going to earn her sexy points from the opposite sex or not. Still, it's nice to know what goes on inside the minds of these boys as the women around them go through phases of different looks. So girls, we rounded up these jocks and asked them what they thought about women's fashion! Here is Guy's Point of View!

Just-For-Fun Friday: The Noughties

Filed In Blog by claudia | Comments: 3 | Views: 745

For quite some time now, I've had troubles trying to define our style era. The past ten years have been incredibly fashionably erratic, so much so that I have no idea what we'll be proud to remember from the noughties. I even tried asking The Misshapes, who simply replied that it was just about using past references to push boundaries. But since I'm not satisfied with their answer, I'm asking you (just for fun) today.

Just-For-Fun Friday: Underwear as Outerwear

Filed In Blog by claudia | Comments: 5 | Views: 838

Wearing lingerie as outerwear like a superhero isn't exactly a new concept, though it has recently been positioned to become a full-fledged trend. Some say it's one of the things we should have left behind in the '80s. Others say it's incredibly hard to pull off, but when done, it's terrifically avant garde. Just for fun, I'd like to know what you think!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer '10

Filed In Blog by karen wong | Comments: 2 | Views: 1292

The Spring/Summer '10 season may be underway at the moment, but let's take a moment to see how it all kicked off in New York two weeks ago. The New York Fashion Week was a pretty monumental start to the season and designers exhibited their blood, sweat and hard work to a crowd that consisted of the fashion elite, Hollywood stars and a Z-list celebrity who shouldn't have any place over there! Come check out our recap of NY Fashion Week after the jump!

Trend Talk: Polka Dots

Filed In Fashion by michelle | Comments: 0 | Views: 145

Polka dots: last seen on a dress/ skirt handpicked by mummy when you were 10. But some people never quite grow up (not me anyway), do they? Why should we when we can inject a little fun into your wardrobe. I’m sure you’re sick to death of hearing the words fun and flirty associated with just about any item of clothing but I believe they accurately describe the grown-up version of the polka dots. This was apparently a Spring 06 trend which seems to have stuck around for longer than usual. Please note the emphasis on the word apparently because unlike strong runway looks ala Luella’s SS08 for example, trends like polka dots or even stripes are pretty ubiquitous and surface every other season or so. I’m sure its popularity comes and goes but it’s not something that goes away completely. It was also referenced in Wikipedia (side note: how does one survive without Wikipedia?) as a fad in UK last year. Like I said… it’s still going strong.

And it comes out even stronger when the sun is out. The proof is in the streetstyle blogs…

Trend Talk: Nautical

Filed In Fashion by michelle | Comments: 0 | Views: 128

I’m not sure if nautical is ever an obvious catwalk trend but it’s one that seems to pop up every spring/summer season. Or is that just in Topshop?

Rope detailing, tops with neck ties, huge buttons (preferably brass or brass looking), anchor shaped accessories (skull and crossbones optional - or would that be goth?), anything in navy shades…

Trend Talk: Colour Blocking

Colour blocking is perfect for those who dislike patterns (like plaid) or prints and before I start quoting verbatim, I think I’d better share this video where the trend is best summed up by Elle’s Special Project Editor.

We first spotted this trend in the Spring/ Summer 08 shows, with looks ranging from the young and playful…

Trend Talk: Plaid

Filed In Fashion by tongueinchic | Comments: 0 | Views: 139

Grunge, lumberjack, slacker, Scottish… what else do you think of when you see plaid? If you’re not a fan of the pattern then I guess “chic” would be the last thing on your mind.

For the trend conscious, I’m sure you’d be appalled to see this post. “Plaid? Dah-ling please… it was soooo last season…” (Clearly, my different personalities collide all the time resulting in such imaginary conversations. And I’ve got to get that anal so-called fashionista out of my head!)

Anyway, it looks like the plaid “trend” didn’t totally disappear. They made minor appearances in the SS08 collections. Remember Luella and Gucci?
